Topic: rippon boswell March 2012 Auction

There should now be no doubt in anyone's mind detlef maltzahn is a moron.

RK just checked out the upcoming sale catalog, and it is blatantly apparent mr maltzahn has lost whatever small modicum of rug savvy he might ever have had.

We have been demonstrating for many years now maltzahn's over arched and hyped reputation as a carpet expurt. But this latest sale catalog with below bargain basement pricing and over-used late 19th century, or circa 1900, dating for Turkmen weavings that are obviously earlier takes the cake.

Sure, sure business is tough and an auctioneer like maltzahn has to go a long way to get people interested and then to bid. However, stupidly low estimates, just like his former high ones for weavings that surely were worth less, is not in RK's opinion to the way to accomplish this.

There's an old saying: "When the going gets tough, the tough get going". In maltzahn's case we'd like to add "And when the tough get going, morons get stuck in the mud".

Time will tell if bargain basement and generally poor and worthless just above airport art rugs can be sold in the present economic climate.

Although, too bad for maltzahn's supposed reputation, as he will not be saved whatever the outcome.

And on top RK has heard maltzahn is planning to begin selling paintings and other "fine art" in the rippon boswell salesroom.

Frankly, RK is sure he will make an ever bigger fool out of himself should this rumor actually be true.

In any other collecting field it would be a great embarrassment for an auctioneer not to post the results of a sale after two months have elapsed.

But in rugDUMB boswell's reluctance to bona fide his results goes unquestioned.

What's the big secret?

With commission rates bordering on usury, and the slowest payment to consignors in the auction industry RK thinks its time for detlef maltzahn to shape up.

Too bad he has no real competition, for were there a really competent alternative we are sure maltzahn would be begging for consignments and not sitting on his high horse pretending he is something important.

Perhaps our chiding him will prompt the relase of the March results, but we highly doubt it because like many in rugDUMB's higher circles boswell seems to think his sh*t don't stink.

Yeah, right....

Seems maltzahn, aka boswell, has not deemed fit to publish the results of his march sale.

Why, you might ask?

Well, let's just say the results were probably as weak as the quality and content of the sale.

Today we took a second look at what maltzahn, the rug-putz, is offering. What a load of rubbish. Talk about sinking down low...

Is rippon boswell so desperate to need to hold such a sale of airport-art pseudo-collectible rugs?

Guess the answer has to be, Yes, they are.

Skinner auction in Boston, Mass USA has been getting away with selling a good majority of the similarly late and uninteresting rugs that mostly grace their sale, but RK doubts maltzahn will get off them as successfully.

We will all know when the results are published, but, if there are any takers out there, RK will be glad to wager less than 50% of the 336 lots on offer will sell in the auction.

NB: That's not counting maltzahn's penchant for making after sale offers at far less than their catalog estimates.
